A material designed to return to the earth.

Sustainability

A material designed to return to the earth.

iWood is a wood-derived biopolymer — lignin, wood fibres and vegetable waxes — engineered to replace fossil plastic. Every product has a clean ending: compost back into soil, or reuse for years and then recycle.

The end-of-life story

Two ranges, two clean endings

Most fossil-plastic products are made from oil and linger for centuries, fragmenting into microplastics. iWood takes a different route. Our home-compostable single-use range composts back into soil, while our unbreakable reusable range is built to last for years and is fully recyclable when finally retired. The same wood-derived material, designed around how it ends.

PEFC-certified raw materials

Wood fibres are sourced from responsibly managed forests, certified to PEFC standards.

DIN EN ISO 14855

The compostable range is tested to DIN EN ISO 14855 for biodegradation under composting conditions.

Plastic-free by design

A wood-derived biopolymer that replaces fossil plastic — no oil, no microplastics left behind.

Fully recyclable reusables

The reusable range is built to last and is 100% recyclable at the end of its working life.

We're committed to honest environmental claims. The standards above reflect testing our material has been aligned with; formal certification is in progress. We'll publish supporting documentation and update any claim that needs it.

Fossil plastic never really leaves

The problem

Fossil plastic never really leaves

Conventional single-use plastic is made from oil. It can take centuries to break down, and instead of disappearing it fragments into microplastics that stay in soil, waterways and food chains. Recycling rates remain low, so most of it is burned or buried.

A material with a clean ending

The iWood way

A material with a clean ending

iWood products are made from a wood-derived biopolymer. The compostable range returns to soil through home or industrial composting, while the reusable range is used for years and then recycled. Either way, the material is designed to give back rather than linger.

Quick reference

How to dispose of iWood

Compostable range: add to industrial or home compost, or return to soil. Reusable range: reuse for as long as possible, then recycle. We keep disposal guidance on each product up to date as certifications are finalised.
